Environmental management is a critical aspect of our business at ED&F Man Commodities. As a responsible corporate citizen we understand the need to mitigate the effects of climate change, and we also recognise that our operations have an impact on natural ecosystems. We are committed to implementing sustainable practices across all areas of our operations with the aim of reducing our environmental impact. We do this in the Environmental pillar of our sustainability strategy through the development of a Group-wide Climate Action Plan which contains actions and sets clear and measurable goals that we will track progress against as a Group and in the individual Commodity Business Units.
The energy we consume attributes to carbon emissions and climate change. As a result, one of the primary ways we are working to reduce our environmental impact is by reducing the fossil energy we use. On our operations we have implemented various measures such as investing in energy-efficient equipment and technologies, promoting energy conservation and transitioning to renewable electricity and fuels. In addition, we promote telecommuting and remote work and encourage eco-friendly commuting. Finally we have invested in carbon offsetting and as a company we have planted 2,905 trees so far in various parts of the world, contributing to reforestation. With these actions we aim to reduce our scope 1 and scope 2 carbon emissions and contribute to a more sustainable future. We also embarked on mapping our scope 3 emissions up and down the supply chain.
Additional aspects of our environmental management efforts are reducing water use and reducing waste. Fresh water is a scarce resource in many parts of the world, and it is critical that we use it efficiently and responsibly. We have implemented various conservation measures such as investing in water-efficient technologies and promoting water cleaning and re-use practices in our operations. We are working to reduce waste in our operations by promoting recycling and composting and reducing food waste. Waste can have significant environmental impacts, including polluting waterways, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, and degrading ecosystems.
In summary, our commitment to environmental protection, management and sustainability is embedded. Being a global operation of many parts with often long supply chains, we recognise the impact we can have on the environment and are taking steps to reduce our energy use, carbon emissions, water use, and waste. We believe that by working together, we can create a more sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.
